LIONS PREPARE FOR GRAND FINAL

LEICESTER star Richie Worrall is keen to end a strong season with major silverware as club prepares for the Championship Grand Final this week.

The Watling JCB Lions take on defending champions Poole over two legs, with the opener at Wimborne Road on Friday before the tie is concluded at the Paul Chapman & Sons Arena on Saturday (7pm).

Worrall was part of the Leicester squad which won the title in 2019, but he missed the second half of the season with a broken leg and had to sit out the play-offs and Grand Final.

He has returned to the club this season and produced a highly consistent campaign, resulting in him winning the Rider of the Year award at last Friday’s presentation night.

Worrall said: “We are not quite finished yet, there is plenty on the line.

“This season has been great so far and hopefully we can bag some silverware, particularly for the fans who are great.

“I’m looking forward to what is hopefully an exciting finish with Leicester and whatever the future might hold.”

With the Lions moving up to the Premiership next season, Worrall is heading to Plymouth in the second tier in 2023, with his top-flight future to be confirmed. He has been with King’s Lynn this year.

Meanwhile Lions No.1 Nick Morris warmed up for the Grand Final with victory in Monday’s Ladbrokes Olympique at Wolverhampton.

Morris won the Final of the handicap event ahead of Tom Brennan, Luke Becker and former Leicester heat-leader Ryan Douglas.
